In the interest of saving money and reducing plastic waste, I decided to try the old fashioned powdered Tide. People may say that newer is better, but you can’t beat an original. I had used liquid detergents in the past but even using the bare minimum never seemed to get my clothes fully clean. Using just the minimum amount of Tide powder knocks stains out and leaves my clothes looking cleaner than before. The smell isn’t overpowering either which is great.
I live in a third floor walk up apartment with laundry in the basement so the box being light weight is a bonus.
I use warm water in a top loading HE washer and there’s no clumping at all.
If you are looking for a budget friendly detergent that actually works, look no further than the original Tide.

Last year’s Tide had 183 load per box. This year’s Tide has 143 loads per box. But they are the same box and weight. Please answer, this drives me nuts.

I can’t believe we are still begging you to change the scent back to it’s REAL original. What a huge mistake you have made to change the scent. You have lost so many customers. So so sad.

This is no longer sold at Target and hard to find at local retailers, online retailers are way overpriced! Has this product been discontinued???

This is one of many examples of where marketing departments in order to justify their existence will look to make changes based on “data“ and “surveys” only to find, after re-tooling, it was a huge mistake. I agree with the other reviewer‘s protesting the changes to the original Tide.

I love Tide Original Powder Laundry Detergent but where did it go? Has it been discontinued? I can’t find it at Sam’s Club, which is where I have been buying it for years, or Target and online retailers are charging ridiculous prices. I do not like the Tide with Ultra Oxi and some things can’t be cleaned with anything that contains Oxi Clean. Please bring the original back!

Best detergent. Works well on all kinds of stains. I just have one problem with it. I throw away every cup I purchase after the first one. This wastes Tide’s money and is damaging to the environment. Sell the cups in every fifth box and label those boxes. Or you can sell the cups separately with a coupon to purchase them free with the purchase of a box of detergent.

I have used powder Tide for years. I decided to switch it up and buy the Mountain Spring scent which I have used in the past and enjoyed. Not any more. My clothes smell like they have been sitting in a barn. Kind of a stale lawn clippings scent with a slight animal potty smell. Not overwhelmingly strong but still not pleasant. I am switching to a different brand of detergent just to get that smell out of my clothes.

There’s nothing quite like the smell of fresh, clean laundry, and for years, Tide’s original scent was the gold standard—a nostalgic reminder of home, comfort, and simpler times. My mother and grandmother were loyal Tide users, and I’ve followed in their footsteps for years.
Recently, at 52, I decided to go back to Tide, expecting that familiar scent from my childhood in the ’70s and ’80s. To my disappointment, I discovered that the “original scent” has been changed—possibly back in 2020? Unfortunately, the new scent is so noxious and overpowering that I couldn’t even keep the bottle. I found it so off-putting that I didn’t feel right giving it away.
The once-beloved fragrance that evoked warm memories is now gone, replaced by something entirely different. It’s heartbreaking to think that such an iconic, well-loved scent has been altered after decades of success.
Please, Tide, I implore you—bring back the true original scent! The familiar smell was more than just laundry detergent; it was a connection to the past, to family, and to home. Why fix something that wasn’t broken? Don’t mess with our laundry scents!

The original had peroxide as a content. Peroxide produces a tremendous amounts of oxygen. Smelt excellent, but dangerous in an enclosed automatic machine due to chance of explosion by spark.

The newer “original” scent is terrible. Please bring back the old smell!

The new original tide is so strong and has some sort of chemical something. It makes me itch and had my skin irritated. Please, Please change back!

Second generation of Tide consumer here.
I am agreeing with the sentiment of all of the consumers who are aware that the new scent of Tide is not the same.
I recall noticing the change back in the 90’s.
When Spring Mountain was being announced, it was marketed as the alternative to the“original scent.”
Not even close!
I am nostalgic about the “Real” Original, too.
I’m concerned with the allergic reactions people have been commenting on.
The replies from Tide representatives are generic and have been falling on deaf ears for years.
PLEASE consider your customers opinions.

I do not like the new scent. I like trying other new Tide scents and then decided to go back to Original (trusted). Very surprised by new scent. After wearing my clothes, I knew my load needed to be rewashed. The smell is awful. I know something is off when my husband asks, “what’s that smell?”

It’s SOOOO disappointing the new scent, its obnoxious and nauseating. Doesn’t have that clean fresh scent like it used to… Oh, how I miss the good all days 🙁

Please give us an option to buy the old scent! I’ve tried to get used to it, I only use Tide it’s the best, but I just can’t stand the new smell. And I REALLY miss the old one. I use free and clear now but I’d rather the real original.
This is like “New Coke,” I’m sure some people like it but others would like the old option back!
Again, excellent at cleaning clothes but I can’t stand the new smell.

The real “original Tide” in powder form is the only detergent I’m not allergic to. All liquid laundry soaps give me a rash and I haven’t been able to figure out exactly what ingredient or ingredients cause my horrible reaction.
Any box with the OXY label, even in powder form, gives me a violent reaction. I will acknowledge OXY cleans well, but not worth the all over rash.
It seems the company keeps trying to “improve” TIDE but I like the TIDE of 25 years ago and wish they’d go back to that.

We bought powder for the first time in a while to see if it cured a smelly front loader. It did. But, it doesn’t smell anything like I remember. Liquid smells so much better. Sigh. Can’t win.

Only one that really works without overpowering scent. Works great in front loader

The old formula powder original tide was GREAT. The new formula smells like cat urine and they’ve removed the lipase, so it no longer removes greasy stains, smells and body oil. Can Tide just stop changing everything that’s worked for so long?! This used to be my absolute favorite detergent, but the changes they’ve made had rendered it useless and stinky. They keep going up in price and reducing how well things work.

We have used Tide for years. We have not found a local store that even has the large boxes of Tide Original (False advertising!!! It is NOT the great, wonderful original.) powder. Why don’t they carry them anymore?
We keep using Tide even though you keep changing it, because we can still tolerate the perfumes you use. That doesn’t mean we like them, but they don’t cause massive allergic reactions like the perfumes in your competitor’s products.

Literally lost an entire laundry load of colored pants, shorts, and a dress (7 items in total!!) due to the powder residue BLEACHING my clothes. There is no bleach in this so why did it ruin over $300 worth of clothing?!

I think the last time you changed Tide powder detergent, the chemicals in tide are so strong they are making womens faces droop. I think your tide interferes with hormones in the body. I wish you would go back to the tide 10- 20 years ago. It worked great then and women in their 40’s didnt have so many hormonal problems. Whatever you added in your last powder detergent change was too strong for the human body to detox. We don’t need stronger detergents. They work fine, they worked fine 20 years ago.

Never going back to liquids, tabs or pods. Why? I did some research and the best format for cleaning clothes and keeping my front loader clean is using powdered laundry detergent. No residue, a Real Clean for my clothes, no heavy scent, dissolves completely, easy to use. My clothes have never been cleaner or looked better.
Please don’t discontinue the Original Powdered Tide!
